Socials

March 29th, 2020

In the month of June, we will be building a community on paper. The bigger the paper you can find, the more interesting the project will be. At school, I will be using a roll of paper on our classroom table. A poster board piece from the Dollar Store will be optimal for home use if you are able to go to the Dollar Store. If not, I have included a paper print out that you can use.

Social Studies: Week 11

  • We are just about finished building our community.
  • This week in class we will add vehicles on the road and emergency vehicles
  • If you feel like you are finished building your community, then you can be finished Socials.

Social Studies: Week 10

Lesson 1: What places do we need in our community for safety?

  • This week we will continue with our community building project. Some of you filed your single page up quickly last week so you may want to print off a few more road sections from last week and tape them together.
  • Students will draw pictures of : fires tation, police stations, doctors offices etc and put them into the community.

Lesson 2: What kind of fun should we have in our community?

  • Students will brainstorm places where they like to have fun: parks, sports fields, movie theatre, pools
  • Draw a few places to have fun in your community.

Show me a picture of how your community is changing and growing.

Social Studies: Week 9

Lesson 1: What are some of the important places in a community?

  • Watch the video
  • Brain storm some ideas of the types of buildings that you will put in your community. This will be a fictional community so you can put in it some of the places that are important to you.

Lesson 2: Begin to Build your own community

  • On the paper that you have chosen, give your community a name – like a title
  • Also, give the streets on your community names
  • Draw a picture and colour your house on one of the streets. Depending on the type of paper your choose, you can do this on coomputer paper and then cut it out and glue it on or draw it directly on the paper.
  • Draw, colour and name a school and put it in your community.
