Next week we will be starting our Spelling lists. I will begin with 5 words each week for the month of November. In December, we will add a word each week until we hit 10 words. I will introduce the words on Monday and practice them through the week. We will be doing our Spelling tests on Friday. Our words for the week of November 2-6 are top, but, and, cat, red.

We have been studying geometric solids (3D shapes) in Math. If the students are interested in bringing a Show and Tell next week (November 2-6), they are invited to bring a 3D object from home: cube, sphere, pyramid, cylander, rectangualr prism, triangular prism, and cone.
Students should be able to tell us: which 3D shape they have brought, what it is and why they chose to bring it.

It always amazes me how happy hotdogs make kids! I admit to not really understanding the appeal.
Needs and Wants
In Social Studies, we have been learning the difference between our needs and wants. It has been interesting to talk with the kids about how small our needs are compared to our wants.
This week we will start to talk about our rights as a human. One of our rights in Canada is access to clean drinking water. We will be talking about children in Canada and around the world who do not have access to clean drinking water. We will be doing a small fundraiser for Samaritan’s Purse to raise water towards supporting children in developing countries to have access to clean drinking water. Our goal is to raise $40. If you would like to send a toonie to school to support this fundraiser, we would love to make a donation to Samaritan’s Purse!

Hot Dog Day
On October 28th, we will be having a Fall Dress Up Day and a Hot Dog Day! One of our wonderful local business’, Fraser Valley Roofing, has graciously agreed to sponsor a Hot Dog Day for our students. At lunch time, the food truck will be here to hand out hot dogs to our entire school! Each child will receive one hot dog and 1 bag of chips free of charge. Students do not need to sign up or send in anything to receive the hot dog or chips. If students do not wish to have a hot dog, they should bring their regular lunch and let their teacher know that they will not be having a hot dog.
Fall Dress Up Day will be a casual day for students to wear comfy pants and Fall coloured shirts: read, orange, yellow, green or brown.
