January Focus for Grade 1

December 30th, 2022

January – March is our biggest learning push for the Grade 1 school year. Thank you so much for your support as it is so important and makes a huge difference in the success of the children. Each month I will be posting our learning goals so that you can take a look and jump in and support. If you have any questions about where or how you can support your student, feel free to email me and we can set up a time to chat more!

January:

Theme: Winter

Math: Measurement – standard and non-standard measurements

  • addition facts 0-9
  • printing numerals to 100

Language Arts:

Reading – Each week I will send home a book that we are working on in class. After practicing at school and home, students should be able to confidently read the book out loud. The level of the book is printed on the cover. Our goal is to have all students reading at a level F by the end of the year so that they will be ready to move into Grade 2.

Writing – we are orally building sentences with our Spelling words. Our goal is to be able to independently create and print our own sentences using phonetic spelling.

Spelling: begin 10 word spelling lists

Science: Solar System

Socials:  Jobs in the Community

-We would love to have some parents come in and talk about their jobs. If you are available, feel free to email me and we can set up a time for you to come in. The kids love having their parents come to visit!

Bible: Isaac and Rebekah

Memory verse for January and February – 1 John 4:7-11

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

December 30th, 2022

I’m taking a few moments at my desk to reflect over the holidays and shift my mind back to school and planning. Thank you so much for the lovely gifts, gift cards, kind words and Christmas cards. It was wonderful to feel seen and supported as we work together to educate the little ones.  I hope that you stayed warm this holiday season and spent lots of time with those you love. I enjoyed time with my family and battled the weather with Scout. I love the snow, but will not be sorry to see longer, warmer days. I look forward to seeing you soon and jumping back into the school routine.
