Language Arts

March 29th, 2020

My goals for the month of June in Language Arts are to continue learning how to read, write and spell.

Learning at Home Menu: Week 11

Lesson 1: Phonogram Practice

  • During our home learning time, we did try to work on phonograms alternately with spelling. I know that it is a challenge to do at home.
  • I would love the kids to feel confident with their phonograms going into grade 2. I have introduced all of the phonograms, but there are some that did not get the focus that our phonograms that were introduced earlier on in the year did.
  • If you have the cards at home, can you go through all 70 of the phonograms and pick out the ones they are unsure of and go over them throughout the week?
  • If you do not have any phonograms at home, can you go back to the beginning of our learning menus and watch the videos that I made for the kids and go over the new phonograms both orally and on paper?

Lesson 2: Journal Write

  • With Father’s Day coming up, let’s do a write on why we love our Dads so much!
  • Please write one or more full sentences about why you love your dad.
  • Draw a picture of you and your dad doing something fun and colour it.

Please send me a picture

Lesson 3: Read

  • Please write one full sentence neatly in your Journal telling me about the hardest part of grade 1.
  • Draw a picture and colour the picture.

Please send me a picture!

Lesson 3: Self Assesment

  • This lesson will need to be printed out and will need parent help.
  • This self-assessment is needed at the school to go with your child’s report card in their permanent file
  • Please discuss the questions with your child and allow them to decide how they feel their problem solving abilities are with 1 being low and 5 being high.
  • They should also neatly draw and colour a pciture of themselves solving a problem.
  • I will need to print this out to put in their files so when you take a picture try to make it as clear as possible and to fill up the phone screen.

Lesson 4: Read to Me

  • I understand that it is getting more challenging to get work done at home. I can see that the students are moving into summer mode as the sun is shining, routines are lost and everything is slowing down.
  • The children love to be read to. If you could find the time in the busyness of life to read to them, it is meaningful and helpful to their development as readers.
