Orange Shirt Day

It was a wonderful day to open the conversation around Orange Shirt Day with Grade 1s. Here are some of the activities we did:

Orange Shirt Day – September 29th

Don’t forget that tomorrow, September 29th, is Orange Shirt day. Students are invited to wear an orange shirt and casual bottoms to school. Children are also free to wear their uniforms if they prefer.

Robert Munsch

In the month of October, we will be doing a Robert Munsch Author Study. Our goal is to read as many Robert Munsch books as possible! If you have any Munsch books at home that you would be willing to lend us, that would be fabulous! Please make sure your name is in the books so we can return them to the correct families! This unit is always a class favourite!

Here are some dates for you to put on your calendar:

October 1 – Pro D Day- No School

October 11- Thanksgiving- No School

October 13 – Fall colour day dress up: red, orange, yellow, brown, green

October 22 – Pro D Day – No School

• Pizza Day every Tuesday – pre order
• Knight Day every Friday
• I’m working on a field trip for the end of October – waiting on bussing

October 1 Drop Off

Admin is requesting that beginning October 1st, that parents do not bring students into the building. We are trying to keep the number of extra bodies in the hallways to a minimum because of covid regulations.  If you need assistance with coming in, you can let the staff at the front doors know and they will come and get me and I can help out!

Busy Week Ahead

As I prepare for next week, I see that we have so much going on. Here are a few reminders for you to add to your calendar:

September 28 – Pizza Lunch (if pre-ordered)

September 29 – Orange Shirt Day

September 30 – Truth and Reconciliation Day (No School)

October 1 – Pro D Day – No School

** Just a note that Library is on Thursdays and students will need to return books before the sign out new ones.

Terry Fox

Don’t forget our Terry Fox Run tomorrow! I’ll collect toonies until the end of the day tomorrow if you would like to donate!

Pizza Lunch

We are now able to order Pizza Lunch online through the “munchalunch” programme. It can be found on our Highroad Academy website in the “My Highroad” section. Pizza lunches will be on Tuesdays. I know the kids have been wondering about hot lunch since Kindergarten so this will be exciting for them!

Apple Tasting

On Friday, we did some apple tasting. I tried to bring in some types that the children may not have tried before. I found an apple called “envy” that was really yummy!

Rainy Weather

With the rainy weather that we need so badly here, we will need to start dressing for the weather. Children will be going outside to play in the light rain. We will only stay inside if it is raining heavily. Please send rain boots and coats to school so we can enjoy our puddle jumping and not be soaked for the rest of the day!
