Grade One Store
For the week of May 24-27th, I will be opening a Grade One store for the children to practice their money skills. The children are invited to bring $1 or less in change one time during the week to purchase small items from our store. It should be a fun way of having the children practice their change counting and spending skills.

As our Grade 1 year winds down, I am trying to squeeze in some of the fun that we would have spread out throughout the year if covid had not restricted us. The challenge is that I cannot do it all by myself. I need your help! We need your help! The children are getting tired and it is becoming more challenging to engage them in work tasks. I am planning things for the kids to look forward to each week and to hopefully motivate them to keep working and to come to school. Here are all of the dates until the end of the year that I need help with. I emplore you to pick a date or two and sign up!
May 25 – Games afternoon 1-3 – 4 parent helpers (with a game) needed
June 3 – Benanna Lake Field trip 11-2:30 – 2 parent helpers needed on the field trip
Jun 8 – Cheam Wetlands – 11-2:30 – 2 or more parents needed on field trip
June 10 – Fun Day (Sports Day) – 3 parents needed from 9-noon

Date Correction for Benanna Lake Field trip
It has been brought to my attention that I have made an error on the field trip notice for the Benanna Lake Field trip. The correct day is Friday, June 3, 2022. Sorry about that!

Usually I do lots of activities where parents can come into the classroom and join us. Covid had taken that away from us, but we are now free to slowly open things up.
Are any parents interested in a games afternoon from 1-3 on May 25th? I would need 4 parent helper who could bring a game to play with a small group. Is there another parent who can send 15 individual snack size bags of chips?
Let me know if you are available!

We were so thankful that the weather cooperated on Friday for our Blue Heron Reserve Field trip! The sun came out and we even got to take our coats off. Even though we were very noisy, we were able to see some of our native BC frogs and a turtle. The Art lesson was wonderful and I rarely see the children that quiet and engaged.

Blue Heron Reserve
Just a reminder that we are going to the Blue Heron Reserve tomorrow. We will go rain or shine so we pray for sun, but will prepare for rain! Please send weather appropriate shoes/boots and coats. We will be eating our lunch at the park so there will not be a microwave there to heat up food. Feel free to join us if you are available!

We are slowly moving back to pre-covid protocols and I thought that I would bake cookies with the kids on May 18th in the morning from 9:00am-10:30. I am hoping to have one parent volunteer to help in the kitchen and two parents who would be willing to make a batch of cookie dough for us! Can you help us? Feel free to email me at kevans@highroadacademy.com.
